“Woe to them that call evil good and good evil!”

Some time ago, I was shaken by an extremely vivid dream. I saw a mob of people angrily protesting the shooting death of a criminal, caught in the act of a vicious crime, by a police officer. This horde was rabidly defending the criminal, calling him good, while at the same time calling the good cop evil. The mob was demanding that the good cop be hanged immediately, without a trial.

Suddenly, in the midst of my shock, a voice from heaven cried out. “Woe to them that call evil good and good evil!” (Isa 5:20) I was urged to look closer at the frenzied crowd. I began to recognize many of the faces. They were my friends and they claimed to be Christians. I was puzzled. The voice informed me, “In these days, even the very elect will be deceived.” (Mt 24:24)

I asked the voice, “Why is it ‘woe to them’ who call evil good?” The voice said, “Because, when you can’t recognize evil, or refuse to recognize evil for what it is, evil is loosed. When you loose evil, good suffocates.” I clearly saw evil being endorsed, embraced, promoted, and protected by law.

I then asked, “Why is it ‘woe to them’ who call good evil?” The voice said, “Because, when you handcuff things like truth, safety, protection, courage, and peace, you bind good. When you bind good, evil thrives.” I clearly saw good people hesitant and reluctant to get involved because it was too risky. Crime thrived.

This is today. People literally cannot discern good from evil. No one seems to know what is right any more. Individuals, families, and governments either cannot, or will not, speak against evil or defend good. As a result, our societies are nose-diving into greater confusion, loss, and death. Hebrews 5:13-14 warns, “For everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”

Need some present examples of confusion? (Not making any of this up. Please be assured that the Bible addresses each one of these issues.)

a. Mankind is now discovering that there are multiple genders, right?
b. Abortion is okay, isn’t it? A woman’s choice, and all that? Right?
c. Isn’t it great that we’ve evolved and can now accept the marriage of two men in love?
d. After all these years, white people are finally acknowledging their privilege? Right?
e. Isn’t is sad that after all these years, America is still full of bigots and racists?
f. What’s the harm in legalizing marijuana? It’s just like alcohol! Right?
g. Police today are profiling and trigger happy! Police brutality is epidemic! Right?
h. Doesn’t allowing trans-athletes to compete embrace diversity? We should celebrate their courage! Right?
i. All the statues of slave-owning, racist Americans just keep reminding me of our nation’s sordid past. Removing them helps to destroy bigotry and discrimination! Right?
j. We should’ve solved poverty in America, by now! Socialism is the solution! If only we would give socialism a real chance! Right?
k. Making college free is the right thing to do! Right?
l. Mankind is destroying the planet! Time is running out! We must save the planet! Right?
m. The gender-pay gap is proof of discrimination against women! Gender equality, now! Right?
n. Allowing my twelve-year-old to dress in drag and post on social media is commendable. Right?
o. Cross-dressing is harmless! Get over your hangups!
p. Spanking kids is so primitive and abusive! It actually fosters violence in kids! Right?
q. Kids are people too, with feelings and rights! They must be respected as much as the authorities (parents, teachers, police)! Right?
r. People have a right to protest any time, any where! They can protest at work, at school, during the national anthem, in restaurants, in the middle of traffic, or government offices and hearings! Right?
s. Porn is art! It’s harmless and victimless! It’s also therapeutic! Right?
t. Make prisons more humane and comfortable! This helps with rehabilitation! Right?
u. We should listen to celebrities (Actors, Singers, Athletes, Politicians) because they’re accomplished, intelligent, and influential! Right?
v. Guns are the cause of the mass shootings! Guns cause violence! We need stricter gun control! Right?
w. Rich people have too much money! They’re hoarding the cash! Redistribute the wealth! Right?
x. Conservatives need to be silenced because they’re bigoted and intolerant! It’s okay to use force against them! Right?
y. Colleges and universities should boycott and protest conservative speakers because conservatives are the problem! Right?
z. I have a right to believe whatever I want! So, don’t offend me or trigger me with your beliefs and opinions!
(Sigh)

Have you also noticed these increasing, destructive trends? Even many Believers and churches have lost their way, and are open to exploring acceptance of these new proposals. (Well-meaning Christians happen to be my biggest opponents.) Why is this happening?!! Why are these things listed issues in our churches and societies? To answer, this mayhem is a reflection of our neglect of God. The degree of our darkness is the degree to which we’ve departed from God.

What are we to do? Scripture clearly tells us to “Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths. But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.” (2Tim 4:2-5)

Take comfort in knowing that every one of the above issues is addressed in the Bible! Christians and the Church need to stop deliberating and debating… and start declaring the Word of God!

We are God’s ambassadors, and He has instructed us to “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” (2Cor 10:5)

I’ll leave you with this. “Evil is out there. What are you doing about it?”

AGREE WITH US IN PRAYER:

a. The Anti-US Base protesters have increased their efforts to force us out of the building. I am supposed to comply with a double in rent costs (from $700 to $1300) by December, or they will take me to Japanese court. Pray for us as I negotiate this matter.

b. We’re still transitioning from SOFA to Religious Visa. The Japanese DMV requires that I prove I actually drove on my US license in the States for a consecutive ninety day period. (More difficult than it sounds.)

c. For the Brig/Prison: I continue to ask God for all the souls in the Brig… even the Guards. Pray for the inmates, guards, and their families. Bind up spirits of bitterness, unforgiveness, shame, condemnation, and pride. And loose a spirit of salvation, discipleship, forgiveness, exposure, healing, deliverance, peace, and restoration!

d. For continued increase at ZCDC (Churchplant). Pray for mature, qualified families and permanent personnel to co-labor with us in the northern-most, remote area of Okinawa.

e. For Zebulun Worship Team. We need Leaders, Singers, and Musicians.

f. For our Believers, that they walk in increased discernment, wisdom, maturity, power, and that they are properly discipled, and that they bear much Kingdom fruit!

g. Pray against retaliatory, unclean spirits (on base and off base). Bind up demonic spirits of lust, division, strife, envy, competition, and fear. And loose a spirit of unity, peace, love, and faith among Believers.

Saints, thank you for your prayers. God hears them and He answers.

We continue to press on. Sure, we have challenges, trials, and opposition. What else can we do, but exercise faith and keep our hands to the plow!

To God be the glory! Kingdom works are still being accomplished in all He’s given us. (In a way, these outreaches help me greatly to stop focusing on my own challenges. They help me to be selfless, instead of selfish.) Kingdom love compels us to get involved with lost, confused, and hurting people. We do our best to point them to Christ.
