Group of people standing in a room with a bright doorway.

“That sounds like conviction.”

For over twenty years, I’ve seen a constant flow of confinees into the Brig. At this point of confinement and brokenness, the majority of these men are searching for answers. This harvest is ripe! And I’ve just wanted to be there to point them to Christ for encouragement and hope. Pray for us as we fight to retake and rebuild a godly foundation. So, after eleven months of opposition (COVID, territorial disputes, bureaucracy, etc.), Jeremiah and I finally were allowed to go back into the Brig last night to conduct Bible study. To God be all the glory!

Initially, only one prisoner came out. A little disappointing, but understandable due to the disconnect from the lapse in this ministry. Regardless, we dove right in with the one prisoner. As we proceeded two more men came in. (FYI: a fourth young man came in just as we were finishing, having just received troubling news from home. He was broken and in desperate need of prayer, encouragement, and discipling.) Pray for us as we fight to rebuild and regain a godly stronghold in this prison.

Just so you know, the three men that came in were pretty resistant, immature, and critical of much of the content. Despite that, I planted my feet and spoke to them like a father. I was very direct with them with the truths of God. One man (E) asked, “Why do church services have to be so negative and make people feel so bad?” Before I could respond, Jeremiah basically told E, “That sounds like conviction! And you should be thankful that you can still feel God’s correction!” (Touché!)

Despite their reluctance and our candidness, these men all seemed to be interested in what the Bible has to say in response to the 101 and 201 topics. This is a part of that rebuilding. Honestly, we’re building from scratch, but with the highly transient nature of Americans here, it’s something we’re quite familiar with. Pray for a brother. (Lol!)

Also, it was just after nine PM, and we were in the parking lot about to drive away when we saw another young man being escorted by authorities to the Brig Receiving Door to begin his confinement. He looked a little shocked at everything that was happening so quickly.

Real talk: With all the drama, warring, and opposition for the reinstatement of this ministry, I was honestly wrestled with thoughts like, “Is it time to just let it go,” and, “Maybe God is closing this door,” and “Maybe I’m just tired of fighting,” and “These officials can kiss my grits,” etc. (Sigh) I’m aware that I’ve been doing much venting and complaining. However, hours earlier, my buddy Steve (aka Major Spitball) phoned to encourage, rebuke, and correct me. Spitball reminded me that I’m to walk in humility and let God fight my battles, to which I repented and proceeded in faith.

Final thought: Persecution is a part of the Believer’s life. If you’re not being persecuted, to some degree, for speaking and doing the love of Christ, you’re definitely not in faith. Your faith is dead. We are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ, which means we are partakers of this godly inheritance! BUT ONLY IF we also suffer with Him. (Read Romans 8:16-17 closely.)

Regardless of your age, gender (FYI, there’s only two), heritage, ethnicity, location… if you are a Believer of Jesus Christ, and you have breath in your body, you are a son/daughter of God! You have a purpose and a mission! (Mk 16:15; Mt 28:19-20; Ac 1:8; Eph 2:10; 2Cor 5:17-18) Accept the truth that you have a mission. Accept that you have a calling from God. Accept that persecution will come. It’s to be expected. Accept that the greater your suffering, the greater your glory (Rom 8:18). But, also accept that nothing is greater than God. God is greater than any difficulty you’ll ever face! Now, go get some persecution!

I’ve recently discovered that many prefer to give donations through payment apps. Zebulun now has PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp. Your faith-giving helps us to continually, and directly, make disciples. Your financial support humbles us greatly. Thank you.

Fellowship! Family! Friends! We always have a great time discussing the Word of God and its application to our lives today. (Read ““Fog of war… in the Church” about Christians fighting other Christians.)

Pray for us as we get this “Building Project” off the ground. In anticipation of the mass migration of troops and families to the Schwab area, we’re looking to purchase land now for construction of a new building. Sandy and I want to leave a legacy for those who will be here long after I’m gone. Message me for more info. (Read “I believed, so I spoke.”)
Agree with Us in Prayer:
a. For the Brig/Prison: Pray for all the souls (the inmates, the guards, and their families) as we retake ground. Bind up spirits of bitterness, unforgiveness, shame, condemnation, and pride. And loose a spirit of salvation, discipleship, forgiveness, humility, exposure, healing, deliverance, peace, restoration, unity, and cooperation!

b. For continued increase at ZCDC (Churchplant). Pray for the weekly rebuilding and gathering in the midst of COVID restrictions and other opposition. Pray for my strength, wisdom, and resources as we gather new souls on Camp Schwab. We are called to gather sheep and convert goats. Pray for mature, Qualified Families and Permanent Personnel to co-labor with us in this northern-most, remote area of Okinawa.

c. For Zebulun Worship Team. To God be all the glory! We have a lead singer, but pray for the releasing of prophetic, powerful praise and worship.

d. For our Believers to walk in increased discernment, wisdom, maturity, power, and works, that they are properly discipled, and that they bear much Kingdom fruit, now!

e. Pray against retaliatory, unclean spirits from On-Base and Off-Base. Bind up demonic spirits of control, division, envy, strife, competition, lust, and fear. And loose a spirit of unity, peace, love, maturity, discipleship, and faith among Believers.

This is my partner. This is my beauty. This is my friend. This is my wife. This is my lover. Sandy is so good to me… and she’s definitely good for me. Sandy comforts me and shelters me, greatly. I pray I can do likewise for her. (Video of us riding electric kickboards. So fun! (https://www.facebook.com/nick.guerra1/videos/10158955048379393)
In closing…
Saints, please forgive me for the lapse in newsletters. Even as major things have happened in the US over the last month, much also has happened here. Ministry does not stop. It’s a constant fight (Jn 10:10; 1Pe 5:8-9). I want to thank you deeply for your prayers. Your petitions are powerful and effective! Keep praying!

We continue to provoke, challenge, expose, involve, and immerse! I recently had a 20-minute healthy, robust, honest chat with a thirty-year-old man. As he shared his points, I countered with the Word of God. He was quite humbled at the realization of just how far off-base his beliefs and chatter were from the Bible. Honestly, love compels me to speak out and be candid with folks, so I bring them quickly to that crossroad — the world’s ways or God’s ways.

We could use your help. Being full-time missionaries in Japan is extremely difficult and very expensive. With COVID and the accompanying fear, support has been down. I understand, however, hurting souls still need ministering to. Please consider partnering with us in these Kingdom works through your financial support. Donations can be made online at Christians In Action. Or, you can mail contributions to the address listed below.

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. (1Pe 4:12)
