A man enthusiastically speaking and gesturing with his hands in a room with an audience member seated in the background.

“I’m basically a good person!”

Chaplain Aman bringing a “heart of God” message. Truly provoking and edifying! Too many people, to include Christians, see God incorrectly. Our relationship with the Lord tends to be built on negative, unbiblical beliefs.

Watch “Who said ‘that’ and when did you start believing ‘that’?” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZpbstKpnWM&t=1204s)

So I had this conversation recently.

Me: So, where are you with the god-stuff?
Him: Oh, I have my own beliefs. But I’m basically a good person.
Me: “Good” according to who? What measuring stick are you using to evaluate yourself?
Him: (confused look)
Me: Don’t you understand that there’s only One measuring stick that everyone will be judged by? That’s the Bible… the Word of God! How do you measure up to His standards?
Him: (realization and conviction dawning on his face)
Me: Since we’re here, lets do a quick inventory. Have you ever lied?
Him: Of course. Everyone has.
Me: Have you ever stolen anything?
Him: Yes.
Me: Have you ever lusted after a woman?
Him: (Embarrassed) Yes.
Me: Do you go to Church?
Him: No.
Me: Have you ever disobeyed your parents?
Him: Sure.
Me: Have you ever wanted something really bad that belonged to someone else?
Him: (awkward look) Well, yeah.
Me: Have you ever used the Lord’s name in vain?
Him: Well… yeah… but, I’m sure everyone has.
Me: Well, did you catch all that? By your own admission, you’re a liar, a thief, an adulterer, neglected the Sabbath day, disrespected your parents, a coveter, and a blasphemer. That’s just seven of the Ten Commandments that you’ve just admitted to breaking.
Him: (a little shaken)
Me: Seriously, are any of us really good?!!
Him: I guess not.
Me: That’s right! Only Christ is good! Christ never sinned, but we are fallen. The Bible says that it is only by God’s grace that we are saved, through our faith in Jesus Christ for forgiveness of our sins. Our salvation doesn’t come from us. We can’t save ourselves! Salvation is a gift from God! (Eph 2:8)
Him: That makes sense. I haven’t heard it put like that.

I left him with, “Bruh! You gotta plug into Christ! Plug into your Bible! Plug into a good Bible-teaching Church!”

Argument: “I’m basically a good person.”

Biblical Responses:
– Rom 3:10-12 And the Scriptures agree, for it is written: There is no one who always does what is right, no, not even one! (vs.11) There is no one with true spiritual insight, and there is no one who seeks after God alone. (vs.12) All have deliberately wandered from God’s ways. All have become depraved and unfit. Kindness has disappeared from the all, not even one is good.
– Rom 3:23 All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
– Rom 5:12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man (Adam), and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.
– Ecc 7:20 Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.
Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
– Ps 51:5 Lord, I have been a sinner from birth, from the moment my mother conceived me.
– 1Jn 1:8-10 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. (vs.9) But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. (vs.10) If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.
– Eph 2:8-9 For it was only through this wonderful grace that we believed in him. Nothing we did could ever earn this salvation, for it was the gracious gift from God that brought us to Christ! (vs.9) So no one will ever be able to boast, for salvation is never a reward for good works or human striving.

More than ever, the world needs Jesus, the Christ! Christ is the only solution to every one of our present woes. The Word is the needful thing! (Lu 10:42; Ecc 12:13)

Impromptu foot-washings

So, Sandy and I were fortunate enough to see these four men at Sunday Chapel Service the day before they left and returned to the US. It’s important to me to not just casually say goodbye to people we’ve discipled, but to “send them” and “serve them.” Send them apostolically into the next chapter of their lives, and Serve them by demonstrating Christ’s example of servitude to us (Jn 13:1-17). Watch “Who’s your daddy? Reasons why Christians are supposed to go to Church.” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcW1kcvoemQ&t=2s)

These men have eagerly absorbed the Word of God. They have endured confrontation, exposure, immersion, correction, and repentance. Christ has transformed them. Unlike most Christians, these men are genuine and do not walk in “Stolen Valor.” (Read about “Stolen Valor” in the Church.)

Agree with us in prayer!

It’s time to rebuild again. A Marine unit just left, and a new unit is inbound this week. Pray for these inbound souls, that we can engage them and draw them deeper into Christ during their six-month deployment. God has placed on me an ability to “gather,” so I go in faith, I meet people, and I challenge them into Christ. The people pictured here are practically all new faces to the ministry. Glory to God for His increase! After sharing the gospel with one young man, he defiantly admitted that he still chooses not to believe. I countered with, “You have to answer this. Why would anyone reject the love of God?” His face went blank. Watch “Hey you! Christian! Don’t hold back!” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcnnNe9r7Jo&t=746s)

“go or sow!”

“Go or Sow!” You are humbly invited to literally come and labor with us for a season. Or, if you can’t come out, you can sow into these ministries. Whenever you sow into these works, you become a benefactor of the Kingdom fruit being harvested here, and much fruit abounds to your account (Php 4:17). In closing…

I was quite concerned that Koda and Kleo wouldn’t remember me. Boy, was I wrong! They remembered me and have been overwhelming me with their affections. Lol! (Watch our 70’s Funk lip-sync video “Will you still love me tomorrow? Very yes!” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFS0eZUfJVc&t=23s)

Beloved, your prayers are precious to us! Thank you! Sandy and I have hit the ground running. It’s been one week and there have been abundant ministry opportunities. As we step out in faith, the Holy Ghost leads us, and love happens.

We humbly ask for your help. Your monetary gifts and contributions enable us to be about the Father’s Business. Completely by faith, Sandy and I choose to serve the Lord here in Japan. And every week is filled with a harvest of Kingdom fruit! Financial offerings can be made online through Christians In Action. Or, you can mail contributions to the address listed below.

I declare that you let not your heart be troubled, that you believe in God, and also in Christ! (Jn 14:1)
