Group of men bowing their heads in prayer.

“I have a confession.”

“I don’t really believe in what I’m doing over here.”

It’s true. The more time I spend in prayer, in His word, and in His works, I realize that I don’t believe in what I’m doing over here. Rather, I increasingly believe in what Christ is doing through me over here. It’s all about Christ and I’m just a willing vessel. Sure, I’ll often fight Him and I complain much of the way, but like the stubborn son in Mt 21:29, still, I go. And, as I obey and go, I am humbled and amazed at what God accomplishes through my obedience and my efforts. (Gives me a practical understanding of, “YOUR kingdom come, YOUR will be done.” Mt 6:10)

Recently, I sorted through 15-20 years of digital photos of ministry. I was mildly stunned at so many memories – many forgotten. So many outreaches, so many hours, so many challenges and tests and failures, so much praying and studying and preparing, so many impacted souls and changed lives, and so many incredible miracles and mighty moves of God.

I found myself humbled at that stroll down memory lane for a couple of reasons:

  • That God would use me. Now, that simply doesn’t make sense, because I know how undone and unqualified I am. I know how incompetent and unreliable I am. Also, I have no lack of critics that would agree that my involvement in ministry doesn’t make sense. (Real talk… I admit that I wouldn’t have picked me either for these works. Lol!) However, when I focus on Christ, and not self, I find that His calling and qualification is greater than my shortfalls. So, all I do is step out in faith, obey God, and His power shows up. (Btw, my buddy, Adam – aka A-Dub, beautifully and powerfully reminded me of Who qualified me. YOU MUST READ THESE! 2Cor 3:5; Gal 1:1; Amo 7:14-15; 1Jn 2:27; Ac 4:13; Ps 119:46)
  • It really is a privilege to serve Him in such marvelous, important, eternal works. That the Creator of the universe would call us into prayer and works is mind boggling. On one hand, it’s like, “What is God thinking,” but on the other hand it’s, “What an opportunity!!!” Ephesians 2:10 reads, “No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.” (The Msg)

The Kingdom fruit being harvested here is beyond comprehension and fully amazing! The things that happen here cannot be personally manufactured. So many super-natural, godly things happen whenever I operate in faith and obedience. (Watch YouTube video of insane obedience and faith)

As I’ve concentrated on living a Christ-centered life, powerful things happen that simply increase my faith. My advice to you: Just do something. In John 7:17, Jesus said, “Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.” So, all I have – all I can really give people – is the Word of God and my experiences with the Word of God. That’s basically it. I try to walk in faith and obedience, and God does the rest.

So, honor Christ in all your ways (Pro 3:5-6), and do something for the Lord! Matthew 6:20 tells us to “store up treasures in heaven! You’re commanded to do it (See Mt 28:19-20) and it will build your faith!
